Premistar

Peripherally inserted polyurethane catheter (radiopaque) for parenteral nutrition and administration of medication in low weight premature babies. Antimicrobial catheter impregnated with Rifampicin and Miconazole, that reduces the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections. Active agents are incorporated in the structure of the catheter. Premistar has been registered for duration of 30 days.

Premistar codes 6261.20 et 6261.203 are inserted with a splitting needle, totally removed after catheter placement.
Premistar codes 6261.206 and 6261.306 are supplied without introducer. The practitioner can thus choose the introducer that fits him best: standard short IV cannula, splitting needle, peelable cannula...

Premistar is presented in a rigid tray containing:
- 1 PUR (XRO) catheter  Ø 0.17 mm x 0.35 mm with fixation wings. The catheter has an integral polyurethane extension tube (8 cm long, Ø 0.5 x 1.6 mm) with clamp and features markings every centimetre.
- 1 splitting needle introducer (Ø 0.7 mm, 19 mm long) for codes 6261.20/203,
Some versions of Premistar are supplied without introducer (see codes here-above).
- 1 measuring tape to measure the length of catheter to be inserted from the puncture site to the junction superior vena cava / right atrium.
Some models of Premistar are supplied with a stylet (see table of technical characteristics). The stylet is supplied with a Y connector. A syringe filled with saline solution can be connected to the lateral port of the Y connector to prime the catheter or to lubricate the stylet in case of difficulty when removing the stylet or to infuse a solution in case venous spasm.
